Mondulkiri is located to the east of Cambodia. It's bordered to the east by Vietnam Central Highlands, to the north by Ratanakiri and Stung Treng, and to the west by Kratie. Mondulkiri is a hilly and sparsely populated province. With an average elevation of 800m, Mondulkiri has a different climate compared to the other parts of Cambodia. It may gets warm in daytime while turns chilly at night time. The rainy season in Mondulkiri is from May through November.
Kratie Province is located to the east of Cambodia; bordered to the north by Stung Treng, to the east by Mondulkiri, to the south-east by Vietnam, to the south by Kampong Cham and the to west by Kampong Thom. The Mekong River travels its way through the middle of the province. Most of the population of Kratie inhabits along the river banks. It is mostly wild forests beyond the river basin.
Kampot Province is lying along the coast, in the south of Cambodia. The province is bordered to the north by Kampong Speu, to the east by Takeo and to the west by Koh Kong. Kampot used to be a prosperous town thanks to the trading port. In 1959 the port was moved to Sihanoukville and hence declined the commercial activities. Kampot is well-known for the durian, water melon and the best quality black pepper.
Ratanakiri lies on the eastern border of Cambodia, bordered to the north by Laos, to the east by Vietnam, to the south by Mondulkiri and to the west by Stung Treng. The main income of the province is from gem mining and tourism. There are many rubber plantations which have the potential to bring good income to the local economy.
Stung Treng is located to the north-east of Cambodia. The province shares the border with Laos to the north, with Ratanakiri Province to the east, with Mondulkiri and Kratie to the south, with Preah Vihear and Kompong Thom to the west.
Svay Rieng is a small and poor province in south-eastern Cambodia. Svay Rieng Province shares the border with Prey Veng Province to the north and west, with Vietnam to the east, south-east and south. There is little thing to do in the province, most travellers make journey through it traveling by land between Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and Phnom Penh.
Prey Veng Province is located to the south-east of Cambodia. Prey Veng shares the border with Svey Rieng Province to the east, with Vietnam to the south, with Kampong Cham to the north, and with Kandal Province to the west. Prey Veng is on a busy transit route between Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam).
Kandal has its territory around but not including Phnom Penh. The province is bounded to the north by Kampong Chhnang and Kampong Cham Provinces, to the east by Prey Veng, to the south by Vietnam, to the west by Takeo and Kampong Speu provinces. The provincial capital is Ta Khmau, 11km south of Phnom Penh.
Takeo Province is located to the south-west of Cambodia, bordered to the east and the north by Kandal Province, to the south by Vietnam, to the west by Kampot and Kampong Speu Provinces. The provincial capital is Takeo Town, 77km south of Phnom Penh via NH2.
