THE CONG

Derivatives:  Xam Khong, Mang Nhe, and Xa Xeng

Population: 1,676 people (as of 1999)

Locality:  Mostly in Lai Chau Province.

Customs and culture
The Cong live in houses on stilts.
The Cong worship their ancestors.
After the engagement ceremony, the man moves in to live with his wife family. The couple would have a a wedding ceremony once they have children. After the wedding, the newly wed would move in to live with the husband's family.

Language: The Cong language belongs to the Sino-Tibetan Group.

Dress: Men wear indigo-dyed clothes and women wear colorfully-embroidered skirts

Economy:
The Cong practise slash and burn cultivation.
