THE NGAI
Derivatives: Ngai Hac Ca, Lau Man, He, Sin, Dan, and Le
Population: 4,841 people (as of 1999)
Locality: Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Cao Bang, and Bac Thai Provinces.
Customs and culture
The Ngai worship their ancestors, as well as souls and spirits. All families have ancestor altars.
Language: The Ngai language belongs to the Sino-Tibetan group.
Dress: The Ngai wear garments similar to the Hoa (or Han).
Economy:
The Ngai practise wet rice cultivation and fishing. They have a very elaborate system of irrigation system. And there are canals, dams and water reservoirs build by the Ngai.
