THE ODU

Population: 301 people (as of 1999)
Locality: The O Du live mainly in Nghe An Province.
Customs and culture:
O Du live in small families. After marriage, the groom lives with his wife's family for a while before returning to his family with his children and his wife.
For the O Du, the new year begins whenever they have the first thunder.
They believe that people have souls which, after death, becomes the soul of the house.
Language: The O Du language belongs to the Mon-Khmer Group. Their language is not used anymore. Nowadays they use the Thai and Kho Mu languages.
Economy: The O Du practise slash-and-burn agriculture.
