THE XINH MUN
Derivatives: Xinh Mun, Puoc, and Pua
Population: 18,018 people (as of 1999)
Locality: mainly in Son La, Lai Chau Provinces. There are also scattered Xinh Mun Communities along the Vietnamese -Lao Border.
Customs and Culture:
Xinh Mun live in houses on stilts with tortoise-shape.
The children take the family name from the father.
The head of the family is the father or the eldest grown-up son.
For weddings, the groom's family is to pay for all parties at the bride's family. After the wedding, the couple live in the wife's family until they have children when they'll move to the husband's.
The Xinh Mun chew betel nut and dye their teeth black.
The villagers worship the spirit of the village.
Language: The Xinh Mun language belongs to the Mon-Khmer Group.
Dress: They wear garments that resemble the Thai and Lao which are intricately woven with light colors.
Economy: the Xinh Mun cultivate sticky rice
