THE PU PEO

Population: 705 people (as of 1999)
Locality: Mainly in Ha Giang Province.
Customs and culture
The Pu Peo live in houses-on-the-ground.
The Pu Peo society is patriarchal and the father or the sons own all family property.
The Pu Peo woship ancestor and earthen jars, each symbolizing a generation, are commonly found placed on their altar.
Language: The Pu Peo language belong to Thai-Kadai Group.
Dress: The women wear scarves, skirts, vests, and aprons. All are colorfully-decorated and embroidered.
Economy:
The Pu Peo farm on burned land and terraced fields, growing maize, rice, and beans. The Pu Peo use buffaloes and oxen to serve as draught animals.
