Adventure Tour to the North East of Vietnam Overview

The North East of Vietnam is characterized by green mountains, crystal clear lakes and rivers, national parks, cascading waterfalls and colorful ethnic minorities. The local conditions are poor and the roads from Ha Noi to this region are fairly good. The tour pace is moderate. Accommodations are at hotels with very simple facilities.

The trip features the best of northeastern Vietnam including: eco-touring, river boating, history touring, sightseeing. There are also plenty opportunities to visit ethnic villages on the tour. The Untouched North East of Vietnam is recommended for the travellers who want to stray off the well trodden path to visit untouched natural landscapes and cultures.

Detailed itinerary

Day1: Ha Noi - Ba Be (L)

Leaving Ha Noi in the morning, we travel 270 km from (7 hours) to Ba Be National Park. The further we travel the more exotic and wild the scenery turns to be. We arrive in Bac Can town for lunch break. Then we continue our adventure further into the national park. Arriving at the park, we check into Ba Be hotel which is located right in the middle of the forest.
Overnight in Ba Be.

Ba Be is a relatively untouched area boasting waterfalls , rivers, lakes, valleys and caves set amid towering mountain peaks. The area is inhabited by members of the Zao, Tay ethnic minorities.

Day2: Ba Be National Park (B/L)

Breakfast at the hotel.
Have full day for the excursion on Ba Be Lake. The cruise will bring us to different wild corners of the lake and we will visit the limestone cave of Puong which is 300 meters long. You also can dip yourself in the fresh crystal clear water and have 1 hour trekking to a Tay village. We will have lunch in a thatched-hut food stall. The food is nothing special but the atmosphere is just great. After lunch we will cruise back to our hotel. Free time for the rest of the day.

Day3: Ba Be - Cao Bang - Pac Po (B/L)

We continue our adventure into the northeastern mountains for (6 hours) 179 km from Ba Be to Pac Po. Pac Po is a scenic and peaceful area with towering mountains and crystal clear streams playing music days and nights. Pac Po was where Ho Chi Minh came back to the country after 30 years living abroad, and where he started a revolution against the French rule of Vietnam in early 1940s. At Pac Po cave we will visit and learn about the amazing life Ho Chi Minh had when he was living here. Then we travel 60 km back to Cao Bang.
Overnight in Cao Bang Town.

Cao Bang is a little cozy mountain town in northeastern Vietnam, 300 km drive from Ha Noi. The area witnessed fierce battles between the Vietnamese army and the French army before the French's fall at Dien Bien Phu in 1954. The town is peaceful and security is just very good. There's not much traffic which helps walking about town a relaxing experience. Don't miss the riverfront where you may like to have cool beer.

Day4: Cao Bang - Ban Gioc Waterfall - Cao Bang (B/L)

Breakfast at the hotel.
We travel 4 hours (136km) to Ban Gioc magnificent waterfall with water cascading down from the green mountains into the vast valley. Ban Gioc Waterfall is said to be the best of the waterfalls in Vietnam. Ban Gioc Waterfall is also the border mark between Vietnam and China.

Leaving the waterfall, we will travel back to Cao Bang and visit the different hill tribe villages by the road.

Day5:Cao Bang - Lang Son - Ha Noi (B/L)

Breakfast at the hotel.
Today we travel 300 km( 6-7 hours) from Cao Bang to Ha Noi. The first part of the drive is along Road No.4 along which many fierce battles between the Vietnamese and the French took place in the Franco - Viet Minh War. We will do some sightseeing stops at Dong Khe and That Khe. We will tour Nhi Thanh and Tam Thanh Caves in Lang Son border town and have lunch break before arriving back in Ha Noi in the afternoon. Lang Son is a border town between Vietnam and China. It's 160km far from Ha Noi and the road between the 2 cities is very good. The drive from Lang Son to Ha Noi takes about 1h30'. Lang Son has Nhi Thanh and Tam Thanh limestone caves that attract thousands of Vietnamese tourists and pilgrims in the festival time.
