Vinh Moc Tunnel - Quang Tri

After the Geneva Accord in 1954, the north and the south of Vietnam was temporarily divided at the 17th parallel and the Ben Hai River was the temporary military demarcation line. The Demilitarized Zone (or DMZ) of no more than 5km in width was created on either side of the Ben Hai River. The Accord was meant to be broken and from 1965 the US started the destruction bombings of North Vietnam. Vinh Linh was the outpost of the North and was the most heavily bombed area during the time.  From 1965 to 1972, the US dumped over 500 thousand tonnes of bombs in the area of Vinh Linh District, which means 7 tonnes of bomb for every single person of Vinh Linh.

Saigon Images

Officially named Ho Chi Minh City, the century-old name Saigon is still preferred and used daily by the local Vietnamese. From the very first day when the city was founded, Saigon has remained the leading economic center of Vietnam. While Hanoi charm lies in the laid-back atmosphere, slow-paced life and more suitable for poets and writers; Saigon is well-known for its entrepreneurial spirit, the vibrant life-style and more suitable for businessmen. Hanoi is more a city of history, of traditional values; Saigon is embracing for change and more a city of the future.

We have never thought the city has become less of a charm for us; neither do we think we have got enough of this amazing capital city of Vietnam.
