January is deep in the winter in the North of Vietnam, rainy season in the Central Region of Vietnam, about to be the end of the rainy season in the Central Highlands of Vietnam and dry season in the South of Vietnam.

 The North of Vietnam and northern part of the Central Region of Vietnam normally receive successive strengthening cold winds in January which makes it rainy in the North a couple of days each time the cold wind comes. There are chances of snow in the mountains in Lang Son, Cao Bang, Lai Chau and Sapa.

It is still rainy on a daily basis in Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An, Quy Nhon and Nha Trang in January. It is normally dry and sunny weather in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam with pleasant temperatures.

In 2019, the North had a cold and moist month with the cold winds coming in successively. The temperatures were from 7-24oC. Each time the new cold wind came the temperatures were mostly below 17oC. Sapa and Lang Son got freezing temperatures but there was no snow.

The Central Regions of Vietnam had more rain than usual in January 2019. There were a tropical depression and a tropical typhoon which hit the south of Vietnam at the beginning of the year, and its impact included heavy rains in the Central Region and the South of Vietnam for a couple of days. The temperatures were 14-28oC. Those who traveled to Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An and Quy Nhon Beach had rainy weather, but the rains were mostly light ones except for those during the tropical depression and during the typhoon.

The Central Highlands of Vietnam enjoyed January 2019 in dry weather with pleasant temperatures. Those who went to Da Lat, Buon Ma Thuot, Gia Lai and Kon Tum in January certainly had a good time. The temperatures were mostly 19-29oC, and 13-23oC in Da Lat.

The South of Vietnam was hit by a tropical depression and tropical storm as the year begun and this was very unusual. There was some damage in Ca Mau as the typhoon swept past, it did not strike inland though. After the typhoon, the South just enjoyed sunshine and pleasant temperatures, 24-34oC. January 2019 was generally a good month for beach holidays in Vung Tau, Long Hai, Phan Thiet – Mui Ne, Con Dao Islands and Phu Quoc Island.
