Long An is a province in the Mekong Delta, bordered to the north by Cambodia and Tay Ninh, to the east by Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), to the south by Tien Giang, and the west by Dong Thap.

Geography

The terrain of Long An is flat, slightly higher to the north and north west, and lower to the south and south-west. 66.4% of the provincial area is constantly underwater. There is a complicated network of crisscrossing rivers, creeks and arroyos in Long An of which the 2 biggest are the Vam Co Tay and Vam Co Dong Rivers. 8% (37,829 hectares) of the area of Long An is covered with forest.

1/ Dong Thap Muoi

Dong Thap Muoi is a flooded area of 700,000 hectares stretching over the provinces of Long An, Tien Giang and Dong Thap. Dong Thap Muoi accounts for 18% of the area of the Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam. Dong Thap Muoi is home to a wide variety of flora and bird species. Visiting Dong Thap Muoi, you’ll be in a huge flat wetland with patches of cajeput forests, vast lakes with lotus plants, huge areas of grassland…

2/ Lang Sen Wetland Reserve

Lang Sen Wetland Reserve (Tan Hung, Long An) with the total area of 5,030 hectares is a part of Dong Thap Muoi. Lang Sen is listed as a World Ramsar Site by the UNESCO. The entrance is not that easily accessible nowadays. Visiting the reserve can be done by motorboat. The area is worth a day trip from Ho Chi Minh City and can be combined with other destinations in the Mekong Delta for a few days.

3/ Tan Lap Ecotourism Site

Tan Lap Ecotourism (Tan Lap, Moc Hoa) is a wetland area with cajuput forests and diverse ecosystem. There is an isolated area in the forest for attracting wild birds. Visiting the ecotourist site, you can walk on a raised footpath through the forest and a boat trip to visit the bird park. The site is worth a day trip for nature lovers.

Long An is definitely a lovely ecotourist destination for day-trippers from Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Currently Paradissa only offers ecotours to Lang Sen and Tan Lap from Saigon for a day upon request. Tourist services in Long An are basic and luxury travel services are not available in the province.

There are some local tour companies and travel agencies catering to local Vietnamese tourists for holidays outside of Long An. Some local travel companies specialize in theme parks and ecotourist parks mostly for visitors from Saigon at weekends.

There are several hotels in Long An with basic facilities. Luxury hotels are not available.

How to travel to Long An & Getting there and away

The provincial capital of Long An is Tan An City which is 50km south of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).

Long An has an international border-crossing with Cambodia: Binh Hiep (Moc Hoa, Long An) – Prey Vo (Svay Rieng, Cambodia). Binh Hiep is 80km from Tan An provincial capital.
