Quang Binh is located 100 km north of DMZ, about 170km north of Hue and 488km south of Ha Noi. Quang Binh is home to the fame UNESCO Word Heritage of Phong Nha with the longest underground river in the world; Nhat Le blue sea water with powdery white sand beaches and the Ho Chi Minh Trails.

Just close to the DMZ and home to some parts of the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trails, Quang Binh was heavily bombed, sprayed with Agent Orange and destroyed in the war. The traces left can be vividly seen when you travel in this area such as bomb craters and sharp-leaved bushes without many trees.

Parts of Ho Chi Minh Trails were the trails used to supply troops and ammunitions from the North to the South of Vietnam in the war. The total lengh of the trails was over 20, 000 km crossing many high mountain peaks of over 2500m and deep abysses. The most destroyed parts of the trails were around Quang Binh and Quang Tri Province, especially Quang Tri where there was McNamara Line. Still the flows of enforcements from north to south Vietnam was not stopped. Ho Chi Minh Trails now have been made into highways between northern and southern Vietnam. Still many parts of the trails are still intact or encroached by jungles. You can still tour a part of these trails in Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park.

Nhat Le Beach offers the travellers with white sand, blue sea water and fresch local seafood. The good thing for you hanging around here is that it's off the well trodden tourist paths and there's a good 4-star resort and spa for accommodation.

QUANG BINH TRAVEL AND TOURISM

Our recommended itinerary is to board an overnight train from Ha Noi and arrive at Dong Hoi the next morning. Our tour guide and car will be ready to pick you up and transfer you to Phong Nha National Park for sightseeing.

In late afternoon, we'll drive back to Dong Hoi and enjoy a relaxing time at a beach resort.

The next morning, we'll continue with a full day tour of the DMZ and arrive at Hue Imperial City for the night.

Getting there and away
From Ha Noi you can board an overnight Reunification Express trains to Dong Hoi.
From Hue or DMZ you can travel to Dong Hoi and stay overnight in town or on Nhat Le Beach.

Accommodation
There's only one luxurious beach resort on the Nhat Le Beach, there are many other hotels in Dong Hoi with basic facilities.
