THE H'MONG
Derivatives: Mong Do, Mong Lenh, Mong Si (Red Mong), Black Mong and Mong Hoa.
Population: 787,604 people (as of 1999)
Locality: The H'Mong inhabit mainly in the mountainous regions of Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Lai Chau, Son La, Cao Bang and Nghe An Provinces.
Customs and culture
The H'Mong traditionally live on mountain slopes. They live in houses wtihout window.
The H'Mong maintain a very close ties among family and community. Divorces are not common among the H'Mong Societies.
Language: Mong language belongs to the H'Mong-Dao Group.
Dress:
The H'Mong make their own clothes from mostly hemp. Women's attire consists of a skirt, a blouse that opens at the front. The women normally would have leggings.
Economy:
The H'Mong used to practise slash-and-burn cultivation until very recently. They grow corn or dry rice on terrraces.
