Overview

RATANAKIRI  PROVINCE

Ratanakiri lies on the eastern border of Cambodia, bordered to the north by Laos, to the east by Vietnam, to the south by Mondulkiri and to the west by Stung Treng. The main income of the province is from gem mining and tourism. There are many rubber plantations which have the potential to bring good income to the local economy.

Traveling in Ratanakiri you can take part on different tours ranging from trekking tours through jungles and ethnic villages, eco tours to discover the wild life, having elephant ride amid the wild and ethnic villages, having walking tours by the breathtaking waterfalls...The area also offers scenic and adventurous river trips and hardcore routes for biking and motorcycling.

Ban Lung is the provincial capital of Ratanakiri Province and is the good base for exploring the different tourist attractions in the area. There are plenty to encounter and shop the handicrafts from the local ethnic minorities who travel to town to trade. There are a few flights a week between Ban Lung and Phnom Penh. Travelling to Ban Lung from Phnom Penh by road is too long (2 days) and by river is not realistic at the moment. From Ban Lung you can make trips to Boeng Yeak Lom protected area ( 5km), to the many surrounding waterfalls, to Voen Sai multiethnic village, to Chunchiet cemeteries, and to Virachay National Park.
