
Adventure of the North West of Vietnam
Overview
Adventure of North West of Vietnam is one of our Vietnam adventure travel collection in north-western region of the country for 7 days, 6 nights. The adventure brings you through the most scenic beauty of the wild mountains of northern Vietnam. The road is generally in good conditions except for some minor parts. The tour involves traveling on an elevation of over 1000m, meeting myriad hill tribes, walking to discover the roadside hill tribe villages.
On the tour, we’ll also travel back in time to learn for about one of the most famous battle the Vietnamese fought in modern time at Dien Bien Phu. The tour activities include walking, trekking, hiking and homestaying. The pace is moderate hard and the accommodations are basic ranging from family home to 2 star standard. The fresh wild nature of the north western mountains and the colorful hill tribe culture are the highlights of the trip. The tour is definitely suitable for the adventure travellers. For the travelers who expect luxury, then the tour may not be the choice.
Day1 Ha Noi – Mai Chau (L/D)
Day2 Mai Chau – Son La (B/L)
Day3 Son La – Dien Bien Phu (B/L)

Day5 Phong Tho – Sa Pa (B)

Itinerary
Day1: Hanoi – Mai Chau (L/D)
Leaving Hanoi at 9.30 am, we travel 150 km (4 hours) to Mai Chau, a heavenly valley inhabited by the White Thai Minority. On the way, you'll have chances of taking pictures of the picturesque scenery in the North West of Vietnam characterized with beautiful mountains and colorful hill tribes who can be seen and visited on the way. We stop for lunch in Hoa Binh town.
Overnight with an ethnic White Thai family in a house on stilt in Mai Chau.
Day2: Mai Chau - Son La (B/L)
Breakfast at the home.
To day we travel 170 km (5 hours) from Mai Chau to Son La. As we drive, we'll see sceneries and people more and more different, more isolated from the mainstream world. After checking into your hotel in Son La town and having lunch, we visit the infamous Son La Prison in which many Vietnamese patriots were jailed in the 1930s-1940s. After that we'll have time to dip ourselves in the warm water of Son La hot spring.

Day3: Son La – Dien Bien Phu (B/L)
Breakfast at the hotel.
We travel 150 km (4 hours) from Son La to Dien Bien Phu. The road is rough, but the scenery is unbelievably beautiful and magnificent! We'll stop at Pha Din and Lung Lo Passes to take in the breathtaking view of the area. Arriving in Dien Bien Phu, we check into our hotel and have time for refreshment.
In the afternoon, we tour the historical sites of the famous battles including the museum, the A1 Hill and the Commander's Post. You'll have better understanding of the famous battles that brought victory to the Viet Minh and Vietnam over the French colonialists in 1954. We'll also come to the Black Thai villages which have been famous with the traditional scarf of Khan Phieu.
Overnight in Dien Bien Phu.
Day4: Dien Bien Phu - Phong Tho (B/L)
Breakfast at the hotel.
We travel 270 km (8 hours) from Dien Bien Phu to Phong Tho. Phong Tho is nestled in a beautiful valley and we can take a walking tour to the surrounding villages which are home to different hill tribes.
Overnight in Phong Tho.
Day5: Phong Tho – Sa Pa (B)
Breakfast at the hotel.
We travel 80 km(2.5 hours) from Phong Tho to Sapa which is home to 7 hill tribes. We'll have time to explore their villlages and culture. In the afternoon, we’ll have a walking tour to Cat Cat waterfall and Cat Cat Black H'Mong Village.
Overnight in Sa Pa.
Day6: Sa Pa Town (B)
Breakfast at the hotel.
Full day exploring hill tribe villages around Sa Pa Town. We’ll have enough time stretching our legs after so much time travelling by car/bus. We'll visit Red Dzao village of Ta Phin, Black H'Mong village of Lao Chai, Giay village of Ta Van.
Overnight in Sapa.
Day7: Sa Pa - Hanoi (B/L)
Breakfast at the hotel.
We travel 380 km ( 9 hours) back to Hanoi. On the way, we will take some breaks for visiting hill tribe villages. We'll have for lunch en route before arriving in Hanoi where your North West Vietnam adventure tour is concluded.
