Ba Vi National Park
Related Links
Ba Vi National Park is 60km from Ha Noi. It'd take you 40 minutes to leave the heavy traffic of Ha Noi behind then starts the idyllic scenery of the countryside. For the next 1 hour or so, you'll travel amid mountains and resort areas catering mostly to the Vietnamese tourists who just want to get away from the summer heat of Ha Noi.
As you cross the gate of the national park, the gradients get steeper and steeper. All are just covered in trees and most of the time you won't be able to have a good view of the surroundings. At nearly half way in the national park, there are some simple guest houses and restaurants for the visitors to fill their empty stomach on the way to the top.
Passing the restaurant area, the forest gets thicker and the chill reminds us that we are getting higher and higher in elevation. The top of Ba Vi National Park is Mount Tan Vien which is 1397m above sea level.
On the top there's a nice cafe for you to get relaxed and to enjoy the chill. Here, there are 2 temples for you to visit: One temple is dedicated to a general from the time that no one would remember; the other is to Ho Chi Minh. The hikes to the temples require a bit of physical efforts and the reward is well worth it. From Ho Chi Minh Temple you can get the panoramic view of the surroundings which look like an ancient painting: green mountains running along the Black River (Da River). From this vantage point, I start thinking about my next adventures: drifting along the Black River.
