Tram Gian Pagoda or Quang Nghiem Tu is located on top of the Tran Mountain with large garden of old big timber trees. The pagoda was built in the 12th century (around 1185 A.D) and the name of the pagoda means “The Pagoda of a Hundred Compartments”. Most of the current architecture was from the 17th century.

The architecture of Tram Gian Pagoda is composed of arcades on both sides, the monk residence in the back and the main pagoda in the front. In the middle of the compound, there's a yard before the monk's quarter and a small building for monks and pilgrims to have tea or meetings during the festival's time. On front of the main pagoda, there's a Bell Tower and a house for offerings during ceremonies.

Visiting the Tram Gian Pagoda, you'll follow the steps from the gate up to the top of the hill, walk to the small gate at the end of the left side, pass through the monk's quarter and follow the arcades to the main pagoda. Gate to the main pagoda is open on festivals only.

There are different statues of Buddhists and Arhats (Bo Tat) displayed in the pagoda. The bas reliefs displayed along the arcades are true pieces of fine arts. Most of the wood carvings and statues at the Tram Gian Pagoda was from the 17th century.

Apart from Buddhism, the Tram Gian Pagoda worships also Saint Boi – one of the founder monks of the pagoda and the national hero of Dang Tien Dong ((1738 – 1803) who was a general under Tay Son Dynasty.

The Tram Gian Pagoda is 20km from Hanoi. From the center of Ha Noi, you travel through Ha Dong Town, then follow the road to Hoa Binh Province. The Tram Gian Pagoda is in Chuong My District, 10km from Ha Dong Town. The pagoda is 3km to the right from the main road.
