Vietnam Weather in October 2022

October is autumn in the North of Vietnam, is the rainy season in the Central Coast, in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam.

In October the far-northern mountains may have occasional torrential rains each time a new spell of the cool Northeasterly Monsoon comes which are often alternated by periods with the most beautiful weather: bright sunshine, pleasant or chilly temperatures. 

There may also be typhoons or tropical depressions brushing through Vietnam’s sea or inland in the Central Coast and/or the Central Highlands. Typhoons may cause floods in the affected regions.

North Vietnam 

The North of Vietnam experienced normal autumnal weather in October 2022: some rains but mostly exceptionally beautiful weather with bright sunshine, dry air and pleasant temperatures. There is no doubt that October was among the best months to visit northern Vietnam in 2022.

The first spell of North Easterly Wind was on 10-October and the second spell of on 17-October which was strengthened by another spell on 19-October and another one on 20-October which made temperatures in northern Vietnam range from pleasant to cold. In fact it was cool for 3 days. 

There was light rain for three days after the new spell of cold wind starting on 19-Oct, and this was because the Winter Monsoon interacted with the coming Typhoon (Typhoon No. 6 in Vietnam, coded Nesat). Except for these 3 days that northern Vietnam mostly enjoyed sunny, dry and breezy days with extremely pleasant temperatures.

In the low land, the temperatures ranged from 17-32oC. In the mountains the temperatures range from 13-30oC. In high mountains the temperatures were lower.

The North of the Central Region (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh) 

The region had some days with sunshine but mostly rain. The temperatures were between 17-28oC. The North of the Central Region was influenced by three typhoons in late September and in October which caused torrential rain. Thanh Hoa had some sunny days at the end of October.

The Central Coast of Vietnam (Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan)

There were two typhoons hitting the Central Coast of Vietnam from Da Nang to Quang Ngai in late September and in October causing unusually torrential rain and making several places flooded. Da Nang had 500mm of rainfall in only six hours on 14-October-2022 as influence by the Son Ca Typhoon (Typhoon No. 5 in Vietnam in 2022).

There was heavy rain in the South of the Central Coast at the end of October.

The Central Highlands of Vietnam (Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Lam Dong) 

The Central Highlands had mostly overcast skies and rain. The temperatures were mostly 18-29oC. Da Lat had the temperatures between 13-24oC. There was heavy rain when the region was influenced by three typhoons in late September and in October 2022.

There was heavy rain in the South of the Central Highlands at the end of October.

5/The South of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Vung Tau, Dong Nai, and the Mekong Delta)

The South of Vietnam had an October in 2022 with mostly rain. The temperatures were between 23-31oC. Due to high tide that Ho Chi Minh City was flooded in some places.

Vung Tau city was flooded at some quarters and there was a brief flash flood at the Nui Nho Mountain which caused rock slides.
