Tam Dao in Vinh Phuc Province of Vietnam is an amazing area with forested mountain peaks of over 1,000m above sea level. The area of Tam Dao is about 80km northwest of Hanoi and can be visited on a day trip from Vietnam's capital city.
There are various sites around Tam Dao that attract visitors and Vietnamese pilgrims: Tay Thien Meditation Institute and Pagoda, Tam Dao National Park, Tam Dao Hillstation,... And Tam Dao is home to an amazing wide range of bird species. There are forest trails at Tam Dao with breathtaking natural landscape. Tam Dao is also smack in the migratory route of several bird species wintering in Vietnam, be it in the North, in the Central Coast, in the Central Highlands or in the South.
But, it is a sad fact that quite some destruction was done for facilitating tourism at Tam Dao in decades. Many birds species are not seen here as frequently as it once was. It may be due to human activities at Tam Dao, or it may be due to environmental and climatic change. Recently, Vietnam seems to be getting tough on enforcing laws protecting wildlife and the environment. There are positive signs in several national parks, nature reserves,... around the country. And birds are to show signs of returning to Tam Dao to find a safe haven,... Paradissa, again, operates our Tam Dao birding tours.
