Discover the amazing avifauna of the Tam Dao National Park in Vinh Phuc Vietnam with our birding specialist on a 2-day birdwatching tour.
Tam Dao National Park is home to 239 bird species of which some species are endemic to northern Vietnam and some are endemic to Vietnam. On this tour, we follow different birding trails on different altitudes for opportunities of sighting bird species of different altitude levels of the mountains.
The best time for birdwatching at Tam Dao is during the dry season from late November through April. Please note that it is very cold in December and January at Tam Dao. And it is possible for birdwatching at Tam Dao in the summer and autumn if it is not the time the region is under impact of a typhoon.
If your trip is in the summer-autumn period in northern Vietnam, it may be better you contact Paradissa 7-10 days beforehand for more accurate weather conditions. There are occasional typhoons in northern Vietnam between June and October; each typhoon may cause heavy rain in the North for 3-5 days. During the impact of a typhoon, visiting Tam Dao is not recommended at all.
Accommodations at Tam Dao range from basic hotels to mid-range (3*) hotels. All meals on the tour are included for your convenience of birdwatching.
Depending on the season we may sight only some of the bird species of Tam Dao: Indochinese yuhina, Black-chinned yuhina, long-tailed minivet, common green-magpie, Tristram's bunting, crow-billed drongos, black drongos, golden babbler, plaintive cuckoo, large hawk-cuckoo, Oriental honey-buzzard, crested serpent-eagle, yellow-bellied leafbird, blue whistling-thrush, blue-naped pitta, blue-rumped pitta,...
It is worth noting that Tam Dao has been experiencing a boom in tourism for years and there have been certain negative impacts on the habitats for the birds and the wildlife. There are far fewer bird species sighted nowadays compared to 10-15 years ago. The life of the local communities around Tam Dao has improved a lot. And illegal hunting and logging are to face serious punishment by stricter law enforcement.
We hope that more visitors to Vietnam and to Tam Dao on birdwatching tours and wildlife tours would raise more environmental protection awareness and more responsible behavior from local communities as well as the authorities in Vietnam.
