When talking about the battles between the French and Viet Minh during the First Indochina War, people would normally think of Dien Bien Phu Battle. But it was the Hoa Binh Battle that brought about the pivotal change in the war and it was the Battle of Hoa Binh that General Giap could use his military talents leading the French troops from one battle to another of which Dien Bien Phu was the major final one. In some respect we could say that the Battle of Hoa Binh was a pivotal battle in which the French lost the initiative power to Viet Minh for the rest of the war.
