Travel Guide to Bao Dai Villas, Da Lat

- Bao Dai Villa I (located on top of a hill at 1,550m above sea level, on Tran Quang Dieu Street, 4km east of the city center): used as the working office for Bao Dai when the French came back and re-established their control in Indochina in 1948. The Chief of State – Ba Dao acquired the real estate in August-1949 from a French Colonialist.

There was a secret tunnel to Bao Dai Villa II (4km away) with branches to different villas in the city. The tunnel had been made by the Japanese when they took the coup d’etat in Indochina overthrowing the French in Indochina. And they made the tunnel to capture the French colonialists living in those villas.

- Bao Dai Villa II (1,540m, Tran Hung Dao Street, 2km southheast the city center): Once it was the working office of the French General Governor of Indochina – Decoux during the summer (May-October). There were several secret tunnels from the cellar of the villa to the outside. The villa was used as the summer retreat for some of South Vietnam Presidents during the division of Vietnam in 1954-1975.
