The Yok Don National Park is located in Dak Lak and Dak Nong Province with the total area of 115,545 hectares. The Yok Don National Park is 38km northwest of Buon Ma Thuot City. The national park is the only conservatory of diptoracarp forest in Vietnam.
Yok Don has a tropical monsoon climate characterized by two seasons: rainy season from May through November and dry season from December through April. The highest temperatures at Yok Don are found in April and May and the lowest temperatures are found in December and January. The annual rainfalls are within 1,500-2,000mm with the highest rainfalls found in June and the lowest ones in January.
There are 1,006 floral species and several fauna species at Yok Don. Of the fauna, there are 92 mammal species, 373 bird species, 55 reptile species, 18 amphibian species, 112 fish species, 437 insect species. Several species at Yok Don are listed as endagered and critically endangered species. Yok Don has the biggest population of wild elephants in Vietnam and is among the best places in Vietnam for bird watching.
