February is spring in Northern Vietnam, the beginning of the dry season in the Central Coast, the dry season with pleasant temperatures in the Central Highlands, and the dry season with pleasant temperatures in Southern Vietnam.
In northern Vietnam, February is often the time of dry weather, clouds or mild sunshine, pleasant or cold temperatures. But there are days it may drizzle, the type of rain known as rain dusts which is very light, just like moist air. In fact, there are days the region may experience moist air due to either the Northeasterly Monsoon blowing along the coast before hitting inland or the Southeasterly Monsoon blowing inland from the sea.
The Central Coast often has sun or clouds with pleasant temperatures. This is the best time to visit the Central Coast of Vietnam.
The sea is rough all over Vietnam in February, and sea exploration tours are not operable in most places. The wind is less strong, hence less rough sea all over the country, except for rare cases of typhoons in southern Vietnam.
Again, Vietnam is a narrow country with a long coastline and the country is to be affected tremendously by any change in sea temperatures and/or climate change. This is the reason that the weather patterns in Vietnam nowadays may vary from year to year and could be totally different from the norm.

In the first month of 2026, it is found that the weather patterns were not normal:
- Winter in northern Vietnam was mostly with pleasant temperatures, only two periods with cold temperatures and each was for 4-5 days. The region enjoyed autumn-like weather from October 2025 through January 2026.
- The Central Coast of Vietnam had sun mostly after the first week of January 2026. It is normal that this region starts having dry season from February. The temperatures were very pleasant.
- The Central Highlands and southern Vietnam had lower temperatures than normal: 8oC and 14.3oC respectively.
- Southern Vietnam had torrential day for a day in the middle of the dry season.
Monsoons in Vietnam in February
In February there are two main monsoons affecting Vietnam:
- The Southeasterly Monsoon which sometimes or rarely blows mostly in northern Vietnam which causes moist air and pleasant temperatures.
- The Northeasterly Monsoon which has impact in most of Vietnam in February causing: cool weather in the North, cloudy weather in the Central Coast, dry weather with pleasant temperatures in the Central Highlands, dry weather with pleasant temperatures in southern Vietnam. Southern Vietnam may start experiencing warm temperatures from February if the Northeasterly Monsoon is too weak.
Due to the Northeasterly Monsoon that the sea is rough all over Vietnam in February.
What to expect from your holidays to Vietnam in February, where to go in Vietnam in February?
Taking the general weather conditions in Vietnam into consideration, for those travelers planning trips to Vietnam or those who are on holiday in Vietnam in February, then there are some notes as follows:
- February is no doubt the best time to visit Vietnam given the dry weather and pleasant temperatures in most of the country mostly. There may be some days that northern Vietnam may have very light rain with moist air in the lowland.
In northern Vietnam, February is a great time to go on trekking adventures, biking tours to the far northern mountains. All trips through the lowland of the North are more likely to experience beautiful weather with mild sunshine, pleasant temperatures. Those who embark on mountain trekking tours are to marvel at ethereal clouds on the journeys.
February is still the bird wintering or migration season and of course this is among the best time of the year to go bird watching in the North, in the Central Coast, in the Central Highlands and in southern Vietnam.
Those who go to the sea are to expect rough sea all over Vietnam. It is more likely that sea exploration tours like scuba-diving, snorkeling... are not to be operable.
The beaches in Vung Tau, Long Hai and Mui Ne, Phan Thiet are good options near Saigon Ho Chi Minh City.
Con Dao Islands, Phu Quoc Island are to have cloudy weather with lovely temperatures of 26-31oC.
