Vietnam Weather in July 2025
Country: Vietnam

July is summer in Northern Vietnam, the dry season with hot temperatures in the Central Coast, the rainy season with pleasant temperatures in the Central Highlands, and in Southern Vietnam.

In northern Vietnam, July is relatively dry weather with bright sunshine mostly and with lovely or warm temperatures. It is possible that there may be typhoons hitting northern Vietnam in July in which case expect torrential rain in the far northern mountains with possible flash foods and landslides.

The Central Coast has mostly strong sun, dry and hot weather.

The Central Highlands are in the rainy season with clouds mostly, daily short-lived rain (for 1-2 hours) and pleasant temperatures. Southern Vietnam also enjoys the rainy season in July with daily short-lived rain and pleasant temperatures mostly.

The sea is calm all over Vietnam in July except for the time of typhoon in the North, and sea exploration tours are operable in most places. In case of strong typhoons, the sea can be rough all over Vietnam and travel by sea or by air between islands and the inland is expected to be disrupted.

It is worth noting that Vietnam is a narrow country with a long coastline and the country is to be affected tremendously by any change in sea temperatures and/or climate change. This is the reason that the weather patterns in Vietnam nowadays may vary from year to year and could be totally different from the norm.

In May 2025, northern Vietnam had much more rain than normal and the averaged temperatures were much lower than normal.

In June 2025, there was heavy rain in all over Vietnam. The first typhoon in the East Sea in June 2025 caused torrential rain, flash floods and floods in the Central Coast of Vietnam from Quang Binh Province to Quang Nam Province, which was very different from usual. Northern Vietnam did not have much impact from this typhoon, except for a day to two with high temperatures.

Monsoons in Vietnam in July

In July there are three main monsoons affecting Vietnam:

- The Southeasterly Monsoon which blows mostly in northern Vietnam which causes moist air and pleasant temperatures.

- The Westerly Wind as known locally in the Central Coast of Vietnam, which is actually the Southwesterly Wind coming from the Equator and is a foehn wind,  is still weak and tends to influence the Central Coast. This foehn wind is not likely to have impact on part of the Northwest of Vietnam in July as compared to March-April/May period.

- The Southwesterly Wind, which comes from the Equator, is a moist wind and is to cause daily short-lived rain and pleasant temperatures in the Central Highlands and in Southern Vietnam.

What to expect from your holidays to Vietnam in July, where to go in Vietnam in July?

Taking the general weather conditions in Vietnam into consideration, for those travelers planning tours to Vietnam or those who are on vacation in Vietnam in July, then there are some notes as follows:

- July may be a good time to travel to northern Vietnam if you do not mind bright sunshine, warm or hot temperatures. July is the time with much fewer foreign tourists to Vietnam, but with more Vietnamese tourists making vacations to the beaches and the seaside.

It is mostly hot in northern Vietnam in July, it is important to drink enough water to avoid dehydration. Also, the sun may be strong on some days and it is advisable to avoid biking or hiking in mid day in the places without sun shade.

July is not really a good time for bird watching in northern Vietnam given that migratory species have left the region. Most species may have been in the period of nesting and mating. This is applicable, to a lesser degree, to birding in the Central Highlands and in southern Vietnam.

In the Central Coast of Vietnam, you may still have a good birdwatching experience provided it does not rain. It happens that birding sites in the Central Coast are on high altitudes with very whimsy weather and with high rainfalls, or the biggest averaged annual rainfalls in Vietnam.

Those who go to the sea are to expect calm sea all over Vietnam, except for the time of a possible typhoon in the North. It is more likely that sea exploration tours like scuba-diving, snorkeling... are to be operable.

- The Central Coast of Vietnam is to experience the dry season with warm or hot temperatures. It should be great for beach holidays in the region.

For those who plan trips to the Central Highlands, expect cloudy weather mostly and daily short-lived rain which lasts for more or less than an hour. The temperatures are pleasant or chilly in places with high altitudes and pleasant temperatures in places with low altitudes.

Those planning holidays to Southern Vietnam in July, then you are likely to have pleasant temperatures. It is cloudy weather mostly in the South in July.

The beaches in Vung Tau, Long Hai and Mui Ne, Phan Thiet are good options near Saigon Ho Chi Minh City. These beaches may be very crowded at weekends or during public holidays.

Con Dao Islands, Phu Quoc Island are to have cloudy or mild sunny weather with lovely temperatures of 28-31oC. The sea is mostly calm.
