March is spring in Northern Vietnam, the dry season in the Central Coast, the dry season in the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam.

The temperatures are mostly pleasant in Northern Vietnam, pleasant or warm in the Central Coast of Vietnam, pleasant or hot in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, hot in Southern Vietnam.

Monsoons in Vietnam in March

In March there are four monsoons affecting Vietnam: 
- Northeasterly Monsoon causes pleasant, or cool, or cold temperatures in most of the North ; clouds, possible some isolated rain in the Central Coast with pleasant temperatures ; the wind may comes more from the sea which causes drizzles or moist air in northern Vietnam ;
- The Southeasterly Wind which causes pleasant temperatures in the North ;
- The Westerly Wind from Laos, which is a foehn wind and which affects part of the Northwest of Vietnam (Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Yen Bai) and part of the Central Coast (from Thanh Hoa to Hue), which causes dry and warm or hot temperatures ;
-  The Southwesterly Wind, which comes mostly from the Bengal Bay in March and which is also a foehn wind causing dry and hot temperatures in part of the Central Highlands on low altitudes, hot temperatures in Southern Vietnam.
There may be some days that the lowland of Northern Vietnam is to come under the impact of the Southeasterly Monsoon or Easterly Monsoon which often causes high moisture air in the region.
- The sea in all over Vietnam and the offshore islands are to come under impact of the Northeasterly Wind in March : windy, pleasant temperatures, rough sea.

What to expect from your holidays to Vietnam in March, where to go in Vietnam in March?

Taking the general weather conditions in Vietnam into consideration, for those travelers planning  trips to Vietnam or those who are on holidays in Vietnam in March, then there may be some notes as follows:

- March is a good time to travel to the far-northern mountains of Vietnam when it is mostly dry and the temperatures are more likely pleasant mostly, cold in the early morning and evening. Those who embark on trekking or hiking tours in the high mountains are to marvel at beautiful clouds which are more readily available throughout the month. Some high mountain peaks offer forest of rhododendron which yields colorful blossoms in March-April.

The Red River Delta is also a good place to travel to in March. Ninh Binh is among the top choices for countryside landscape all the month. Those who embark on luxury cruises on Halong Bay may have  fog sometimes.

- The Central Coast of Vietnam may have light rain sometimes in March, but mostly dry weather. The temperatures are pleasant mostly. But due to the foehn wind which may be strong or not in March that part of the Central Coast from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri may have hot days with strong sun. The region to the south of the Central Coast from Da Nang to Binh Thuan is more likely to enjoy lovely sunshine and pleasant temperatures.

- March is a great time for bird tours in Vietnam as migratory bird species are present in the country on their winter migration, and bird parks and national parks in Vietnam teem with wildlife. The best sites for birding in Vietnam in March include : Cuc Phuong National Park, Xuan Thuy National Park, Cat Tien National Park, Da Lat, Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park, Deo Nui San (Di Linh Plateau, Lam Dong Province). Due to climate change that on some days when it is too cold or hot, birds may not be that active and visible.

- March is not a good time to go for beach holidays or for island vacations in Northern Vietnam : Expect strong winds the on beaches or on islands in Northern Vietnam.

The best beaches to visit in Vietnam in March are those in the Central Coast and those in the South of Vietnam including Dong Hoi (Quang Binh Province), Da Nang, Hoi An, Cam Ranh Beach (Khanh Hoa Province), Ninh Chu Beach (Phan Rang-Thap Cham City, Ninh Thuan Province), Mui Ne Beach (Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province), Ho Tram Beach (Xuyen Moc District, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province), Long Hai Beach (Ba Ria-Vung Tau), Vung Tau (Vung Tau City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province).

For those who plan a trip to the Central Highlands, you are to have a wonderful holiday ahead with mostly sunny days and pleasant temperatures mostly. March is among the best times to travel to the region.

Those planning holidays to Southern Vietnam in March, then you are likely to have strong sun and hot temperatures with the highs reaching 36-37oC. The beaches in Vung Tau, Long Hai and Mui Ne, Phan Thiet are the best options near Saigon Ho Chi Minh City.

Con Dao Islands, Phu Quoc Island are to have either sunny or cloudy days with strong winds and rough sea but with perfect temperatures of 26-31oC.

At the beginning of March 2024, the Northeasterly Wind was weak and blowing inland from the sea, hence moist air in the lowland of Northern Vietnam, and drizzle in some places in the far northern mountains. The temperatures were mostly pleasant in the North. 

There was a new spell of the Northeasterly Wind arriving in northern Vietnam on 6-March bringing the temperatures to pleasant level mostly. This spell of wind did not cause rain.

The Central Coast of Vietnam had entered the dry season with pleasant temperatures mostly. But there were days at the in the mid of the first week that there was a brief heat strike in the area to the north of the Hai Van Pass from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri with high daily temperatures reaching 37-39oC.

The Central Highlands of Vietnam had dry weather with pleasant temperatures mostly, hot temperatures in places on low altitudes.

The South of Vietnam had sunny days with hot temperatures mostly.

Regional weather patterns in Vietnam at the end of the first week of March 2024 (after arrival of the cool wind):

- Northeast: clouds, 11-19oC;
- Northwest:  clouds, 13-21oC  in Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai; sun, clouds, rain, 12-24oC in Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau ;
- Lowlands: clouds, 16-22oC.

- North of the Central Coast: clouds, 17-23oC ;
- Central Coast from Quang Binh to Hue: clouds, isolated rain, 19-24oC ;
- Central Coast from Da Nang to Quang Ngai: sun, clouds, 23-29oC;


- Central Coast from Quy Nhon  to Tuy Hoa: sun, clouds, 24-30oC ;
- Central Coast in Khanh Hoa: sun, clouds, 24-30oC ;
- Central Coast Ninh Thuan: sun, clouds, 24-32oC ;
- Central Coast Binh Thuan: sun, clouds, 24-31oC ;
- Central Highlands: sun, clouds, 20-33oC mostly, 20-36oC in some places on low altitudes ;

- East of Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh): sun, clouds, 26-36oC;
- West of Southern Vietnam ( The Mekong Delta): sun, clouds, 26-34/37oC;

In the last two days of the second week and most of the third week of March 2024, the North had the Southeasterly Wind active which caused drizzle and moist air. 

The Central Coast had clouds and rain to the north of the Hai Van Pass and with pleasant temperatures mostly.
The Central Highlands had pleasant temperatures on high altitudes and hot temperatures on low altitudes. The South of Vietnam had hot temperatures.

18-March a new spell of the Northeasterly Wind arrived in northern Vietnam, there was drizzle followed by showers across the North, but the indoor air got dry after a week of uncomfortably moist.

The Central Coast had mostly lovely weather with sunshine and pleasant temperatures.

Southern Vietnam had a drought, hot weather with daily temperature highs of 36-37oC.

Regional weather patterns in Vietnam at the end of the second week of March 2024:

- Northeast: clouds, light rain, 12-24/13-26oC;
- Northwest:  clouds, rain, 13-27oC  in Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai; sun, clouds, rain, 13-32/14-27oC in Son La, Dien Bien Phu, Lai Chau ;
- Lowlands: clouds, rain, 15-27oC.

- North of the Central Coast: clouds, 17-23oC ;
- Central Coast from Quang Binh to Hue: clouds, isolated rain, 15-27/20-29oC ;
- Central Coast from Da Nang to Quang Ngai: sun, clouds, 22-29/31oC;


- Central Coast from Quy Nhon to Tuy Hoa: sun, clouds, rain, 24-30oC ;
- Central Coast in Khanh Hoa: sun, clouds, 24-31oC ;
- Central Coast Ninh Thuan: sun, clouds, 25-32oC ;
- Central Coast Binh Thuan: sun, clouds, 25-31oC ;
- Central Highlands: sun, clouds, 20-30oC mostly, 20-37oC in some places on low altitudes ;

- East of Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh): sun, clouds, 24-36/37oC;
- West of Southern Vietnam ( The Mekong Delta): sun, clouds, 26-34/37oC;

In the last 10 days of March 2024, Northern Vietnam had moist air and drizzle mostly. The temperatures in Northern Vietnam were mostly similar to those in the second week. Part of the Northwest had higher temperatures, the temperatures got higher in Son La and Dien Bien: 20-32oC.

The Central Coast had some rain and mostly pleasant temperatures. 

The Central Highland high dry weather with pleasant temperatures mostly; some places on low altitudes had hot temperatures of 36-37oC.

Southern Vietnam had a drought and hot temperatures of 36-37oC.
