November is the beginning of winter in Northern Vietnam, the high rainy season in the Central Coast, about the beginning of the dry season with chilly or cold temperatures in the Central Highlands, and beginning of the dry season with pleasant temperatures in Southern Vietnam.
In northern Vietnam, November is the time of dry weather, strong winds, clouds or mild sunshine, pleasant and chilly temperatures. Given the presence of the Northeasterly Monsoon in the North in November, typhoons, if any, should dissipate or be pushed further southwards.
The Central Coast often has more rain and the rain lasts longer this month. The reason is that there is often presence of the Tropical Convergence Zone with axis over the region and that November is the time of the Northeasterly Monsoon which blows inland the Central Coast from the sea. There is a high mountain range to the west of the Central Coast which blocks clouds blown in by the Northeasterly Wind, hence rain and heavy rain all month.
It is also due to the blow of the Northeasterly Monsoon that causes dry weather with pleasant temperatures in southern Vietnam, and dry weather with chilly or cold weather in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The Southwesterly Monsoon often stops blowing through these two regions in November.
The sea is still rough all over Vietnam in November, and sea exploration tours are not operable in most places. In case of strong typhoons, the sea can be rough all over Vietnam and travel by sea or by air between the islands and the inland is expected to be disrupted.
It is good to know that Vietnam is a narrow country with a long coastline and the country is to be affected tremendously by any change in sea temperatures and/or climate change. This is the reason that the weather patterns in Vietnam nowadays may vary from year to year and could be totally different from the norm.
The weather patterns in Vietnam have been drastically different from the norm in 2025. There were floods in the Central Coast of Vietnam in June, in August and in September. There was devastating damage resulted from flash floods, floods and tornadoes caused by typhoon in northern Vietnam in late September and early half of October. The details of these changes are listed in our October 2025 weather report.
There were strong winds in all over Vietnam which felled trees and destroyed houses, agricultural crops in the North, in the Central Coast, in the Central Highlands and in southern Vietnam through out the summer from June through October.
Typhoon No. 12 in the East Sea in the last 10 days of October 2025 met with successive spells of the cold Northeasterly Monsoon and got weakened substantially to be an air trough before making landfall somewhere between Quang Tri and Da Nang. Heavy rain between Quang Binh and Da Nang was the only impact of this air trough.
And the Central Coast again suffered from heavy rain and floods in the latter half of October 2025.
2025 has been anything but a kind year in terms of the weather in Vietnam.
Monsoons in Vietnam in November
In November there are three main monsoons affecting Vietnam:
- The Southeasterly Monsoon which sometimes or rarely blows mostly in northern Vietnam which causes moist air and pleasant temperatures.
- The Northeasterly Monsoon which has impact in most of Vietnam in November.
- Southwesterly Monsoon which has impact in the South of Vietnam, in the Central Highlands and South of the Central Coast of Vietnam. But it is not normal that this monsoon is active in November.
What to expect from your holidays to Vietnam in November, where to go in Vietnam in November?
Taking the general weather conditions in Vietnam into consideration, for those travelers planning tours to Vietnam or those who are on holiday to Vietnam in November, then there are some notes as follows:
- November is a great time to travel in northern Vietnam, in the Central Highlands and in southern Vietnam. It is expected to have pleasant, chilly or mild cold temperatures in these regions of the country.
- Expect long-lasting rain and heavy rain in the Central Coast of Vietnam.
- If there is a typhoon in November, then it is more likely that the typhoon has impact on the Central Coast of Vietnam. It does not happen normally that the North or the South of Vietnam has impact from typhoons this month.
In northern Vietnam, November is a great time to go on trekking adventures, biking tours to the far northern mountains. All trips through the lowland of the North are more likely to experience beautiful weather with mild sunshine, pleasant temperatures. Those who embark on mountain hiking adventures are to marvel at ethereal clouds on the journeys.
November is in the bird migration season and of course this is among the best time of the year to go bird watching in the North, in the Central Highlands and in southern Vietnam.
Those who go to the sea are to expect rough sea all over Vietnam. It is more likely that sea exploration tours like scuba-diving, snorkeling... are not to be operable. In case of typhoons, travel between the islands and the inland of Vietnam is to be disrupted.
The beaches in Vung Tau, Long Hai and Mui Ne, Phan Thiet are good options near Saigon Ho Chi Minh City. These beaches are not crowded in November. Expect strong winds and rough sea mostly.
Con Dao Islands, Phu Quoc Island are to have cloudy weather with lovely temperatures of 28-31oC.
Below you can find Paradissa’s reviews and statistics of the weather in different regions in Vietnam in November 2025
1/ Vietnam Weather in the First Decade of November 2025
In the first 10 days of November 2025, the whole of Vietnam experienced extreme weather:
- Northern Vietnam received successive spells of the Northeasterly Monsoon which pushed the region into cold weather from the beginning of the month. There was light rain mostly in northern Vietnam and no beautiful period with dry weather and lovely sunshine before winter in 2025.
There were a few days at the end of the first 10 days of the month that the lowland of northern Vietnam experienced high-moisture weather which made indoor environment wet the type of weather normally found in the region at the end of winter or spring only!
- Central Coast of Vietnam from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai experienced a period with the worst flood. The flood briefly retreated from Hoi An and Hue for a couple of days to allow people to bring furnitures back to their home, then more flood came. The area from Quang Ngai to Phu Yen was hard hit by Typhoon No 13 coded Kalmaegi which hammered the region for 5 hours with wind speeds over 100 kph. After a typhoon, always came an extremely bad period with flood again given that there is presence of a Tropical Convergence Zone with axis over the region and given that the Northeasterly Monsoon blow into the region blocked by the high mountains of the Truong Son Range to the west.
- The Central Highlands of Vietnam, to the southwest of the Central Coast of Vietnam, got rain mostly for the first 10 days of the month. Typhoon No. 13 maintained strong wind speeds blowing through the Central Highlands with high altitudes over 1,000m above sea level which is very unusual according to meterological experts.
- Southern Vietnam experienced rain and unusual high seasonal tidal water which caused flood in several places in Ho Chi Minh City. Those places in the Mekong Delta experienced unusually high flood water of the Mekong River (possibly made caused by high tide levels also). Agriculture and hoticulture in the Mekong Delta were just mostly damaged; life in cities like Can Tho was turned chaotic due to flooded streets, hospitals...
Needless to say further, Vietnam experienced several disasters from one to another in 2025: Landslide and flood in the mountains and highlands, flood in the coastal region and the river delta regions all over the country.
2/ Vietnam Weather in the second decade of November 2025
Northern Vietnam continued to have high-moisture indoor environment for the first few days of the second ten days of November 2025.
Then, northern Vietnam was hit hard by strong and successive spells of the Northeasterly Monsoon which nudged the region into the cold. There was rain for a couple of days when the wind first hit, then the North had dry air, sun, breezes and pleasant temperatures mostly, cold in the mountains.
The Central Coast of Vietnam suffered badly from record flood with torrential rain from Ha Tinh to Ninh Thuan Provinces from 15-November through 23-November-2025. The region from Quang Tri through Quang Nam including Quang Tri, Hue and Hoi An was flooded and reflooded; the region from Binh Dinh through Ninh Thuan suffered the worst recorded flood for the last 50 years. All coastal cities including Quy Nhon, Tuy Hoa, Nha Trang and Phan Rang suffered badly from the worst flood in recorded history.
The Central Highlands continued to have rain and heavy rain which destroyed most passes to Da Lat and between the Central Highlands and the lowland: Prenn Pass, Mimosa Pass, Ngoan Muc (Song Pha) Pass, Violac Pass, Khanh Le Pass, Lo Xo Pass, Dran Pass... Extremely bad landlides and rockslides took place along with flash flood in the Central Highlands and in the South of the Central Coast sweeping away human lives, stocks, houses, all properties...
Southern Vietnam continued to have cloudy weather mostly and the region suffered from unusual high tide which flooded parts of Saigon Ho Chi Minh City.
